DVD-VCR Combinations MSE543666 Editorial Review
** Batman Gotham Knight [DVD] [2008]** "Batman Gotham Knight" offers a unique addition to the Batman universe, serving as a bridge between "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight." With its anime-style animation and mature themes, it diverges from typical Batman portrayals, catering to an adult audience without shying away from darker content. The film comprises six story segments, each around twelve minutes long, presenting various aspects of Batman's character and his impact on Gotham City. Despite its loose connection to the live-action films, fans will appreciate the return of voice actor Kevin Conroy, who expertly embodies both Bruce Wayne and Batman. The animation is a notable highlight, showcasing a mix of stunning styles that appeal to animation enthusiasts, even though the shifts can occasionally disrupt visual cohesion. Each segment provides a fresh perspective on Batman's psyche, from exploring urban legends to philosophical dilemmas about vigilante justice. However, the disjointed nature of the segments may leave some viewers wanting deeper continuity, and this rendition of Batman might not resonate with those unfamiliar with the lore. The themes are more mature, making it unsuitable for younger audiences, but for dedicated fans of the character, "Gotham Knight" presents a bold and engaging interpretation worth exploring. **
