The AAA batteries retain the time setting when the power is off, but the display only shows the time for a couple of seconds if the power is disconnected. Please note that the display is incredibly bright and does not dim much. It will light up a dark room.

Additionally, the clock's time display only appears when it's plugged into the mains, the display is bright and does not dim much, and it may not save the time if accidentally unplugged.
