Serpent & Dove, the first book in the Serpent & Dove series, is a delightful young adult fantasy/adventure novel that follows the story of a witch named Lou, who is forced to marry a witch hunter, Reid, who doesn't know she's a witch. The book is funny, inventive, and endlessly witty, with charming characters that draw the reader in. While Lou is a more rounded character, Reid is a more typical brainwashed character, though his character is expected to be further fleshed out in the next book. The side characters, Coco and Ansel, are great and keep the main characters on their toes. The ending of the book was satisfying, with action and drama, and left readers eagerly awaiting the next book. Some readers may find issue with Lou's wishy-washy choices, which contradict her character, but this is intentional. Overall, Serpent & Dove is a must-read for fans of witches, magic, drama, and witty banter.
